Geographic distribution: Supposedly endemic to Papua New Guinea (Hattori & Pippo 1986) (Fig. 7.1).
Notes: Hattori (1974a) noted that this species is similar in appearance to members of the genus Jubula in the colour, the habit, and the toothed leaf-lobes and underleaves.Hattori ibid suggested that this species might be best placed in Australes due to its distinctive leaf-lobule feature, but is easily distinguished from all other members of Australes by the dentate leaf lobes.Frullania dentata and its variety, outlined below, are maintained in this subgenus, but this placement requires confirmation through further investigation.The drawings are scant, and at least for one feature, i.e., the pattern of the first branch underleaf, there appears to be a departure from the morphology of other members of the subgenus.
